1 Planning

  1. Consult with administrative producer regarding completion date.
  2. Read script. Consult with set designer and director as to mood, style, interpretation etc.
  3. Be aware of budget and endeavor to stay within limits.
  4. When ideas established discuss with set designer and director.
  5. Arrange for assistants when required.
  6. Be aware of production meeting dates and plan to attend.

2 Working

  1. Gather materials to be used and make a list of items borrowed, rented or purchased.
  2. Give administrative producer any acknowledgements for program.
  3. Secure photo from photographer. Mount all photos on foam core*.
  4. Arrange foyer display. Mount photographs and biographies. NOTE: Do not staple photos to the wall. Try to use current display system (e.g. frameless frames, Velcro boards etc.) efficiently. Do not glue or attach names to photos. Add nameplates underneath.
  5. Have administrative producer check spelling etc. for name tags used on photos. It is helpful to have the name of the actor and the character they are playing on a nameplate under the photo. This should be done on the computer or by someone with good printing skills.
  6. Record play, date including the year, director and actors (in photo) on back of foam core. If you don’t know how to use foam core ask someone who does, such as Val Heuman, Sarah McLean, or Doug Huggins.

3 Run

  1. Ensure that the foyer display remains intact during the run by dropping in several times during the run. Make repairs if required.

4 Strike

  1. Remove foyer display as soon as possible after the run.
  2. Throw away all garbage and leave foyer neat and tidy.
  3. Return all borrowed items including items from the props room.
  4. Take down the cast and crew photos and bios and return them to the photographer. Leave production on display (unless finishing the season) until next show opens.
  5. Hand all bills and receipts to administrative producer.
  6. Return job description manual to producer.


There is to be no disposal or sale of any asset of Powerhouse Theatrical Society, without the express permission of a department head or director. There are no exceptions to this policy. This includes but is not limited to props, sound equipment, lighting equipment, tools or costumes.
